Default Sparky/plasterer in NZ

Hi all,

We are looking to emigrate in January 2009 (fingers xd)

I am a qualified nurse so getting PR (hopefully) shouldn't be a problem. My husband is a qualified electrician...can anyone give an insight into what he would have to do to enable him to work as a sparky in NZ?

Would this be possible to do before January, or would he be better waiting until we arrive in NZ?

Also, he has been talking of doing a plasterer's course before we go...is there much call for plasterers in NZ (hopefully Bay of Plenty area)...just in case he decides to go down this road!!

Cheers

Hi and welcome

First he'll need to contact the EWRB and get his qualifications and experience assesed, this can take a while, 6 weeks to get mine back, they will tell him what he needs to do to gain full registration and allow him to apply for a provisional licence, he can't work without one. Best case is he'll have to do the first aid/safety course to get the provisional and the stage 3 practical and New Zealand wiring regulations to get full registration.
Exams are generally held in June and November, listed on the EWRB website along with past papers

There have been a few threads about this, just make sure the experience evidence he sends is VERY comprehensive.

Good luck
