Sorry me againAny midwives help please?
I am completing my documentation for my residence visa but It wants me to have my practicing certificate. I was told not to apply for this until I was more or less on the plane as it starts to count down in which to complete my competencies and reg requirements. My job is not scheduled to commence until January 2020. Should I just apply for my practicing certificate now then and have to be more efficient with the rest of the paperwork?
Many thanks

I'm pretty sure the Mrs applied for her practicing certificate at the same time as doing her registration and from the UK so when we arrived she could work straight away if she wanted to. She didn't actually work for 18 months after we arrived so just kept renewing it annually. Not that much of a loss really - maybe $200. She did do some studying though to make sure she kept up to date with the industry and the line of work she intended to get in to.

You can apply for it now and do one of two things: ask the NZ midwifery council to extend the period of time in which you need to complete the various courses, that all overseas midwives have to do in the first 24 months. I would only ask them that once you've arrived though. They are fairly amenable to such things and the country is desperate for midwives or you could get your registration and APC and start doing the courses in the UK. You could certainly do the NZ maternity systems etc. one from the UK. The others you could start downloading the papers from Otago Polytechnic and begin studying them. You only pay for the courses once you enrol for the exam.
Once you start work you'll have to do the adult and neonatal resuscitation, obstetric emergencies course etc., as part of your induction anyway. IMHO the second way is the better avenue, simply because it's more stressful this end with settling in to a new job, house and country.
Sorry this is a bit rushed but I'm still recovering from the flu and trying to juggle lots of things at the mo!

Hi
I realise I am hijacking this thread but I couldn`t send a private message to you Vitalstatistix.
I think from reading your posts that we used to know each other when I lived in Warkworth, (we have since returned to the UK).
I wont put any personal details on here but will give you a little clue as to who i am, my husband was working in Telecomms and
you and I used to meet up and go for coffee etc when we were both new arrivals and struggling !
If it is you I would love to catch up and see how you are doing, you may be able to send me a PM
Regards Karen
