Default sorry but what is it with adding "ie'

at the end of words to describe people.

lastest is a "boatie" describing a person who has fallen overboard in Wellington harbour

then you have "bikie" to describe members of bike gangs.

It is Kiwi style English. That is the thing with being a world language - people do weird things to it. You should see what people in Germany do to your language. I pity English speaking expats living there

It's gone on for years, taken from the Australian need to pronounce everything with something at the end. Eskie, Wazza, Bazza, Jezza. It was the convicts way of communicating.

Bikie, boatie etc.

Obviously it became more advanced.

There is no hidden meaning nor ignorance behind it. Convict language is here to stay.

I do recommend "the deadly shore". Such a fascinating read. It shows the atrocities people went through.

ok seemed to have hit a nerve. sorry

the actual sentence "convict language is here to stay" made me laugh. I was just thinking of prison talk and nothing else.
