Somewhere to stay for first two nights in Auckland
Please any advice, on the budget side would be good, location over quality in terms of standards and somewhere with decent public transport links. IF they exist!
Any info mucho appreciated

Splash out. I know, not much help am I? We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in a Residence Suite, but if you can find a Holiday Inn king suite, they have washers and dryers in them - very nice!

We went for the top10 holdiay park in Takapuna (Nth Shore) cheaper than many hotels for four of us with a separate bedroom and kitchenette but more expensive than some other parks.......Check out their website or look in the AA guides when you arrive!
Can give more specific advice if you provide more info,,,,,,

Hey we did great - straight off the plane, just looked up the local hotels and rang. As it happens rang Sky city and got a sweet deal on a twin room for 2 nights. What was great was that it is where the Sky Tower is, has a Casino and is right in the centre with lots of transport. It was ace. Dont start me on the Fortuna buffet restaurant...........................a Santa made out of butter, 4 foot tall. It is high end in places because it is a great hotel, but bargains can be had!!!! Oh and people fling themselves off the top of the tower on a string, always good value entertainment, and there is a revolving restaurant if you feel well off!

Always a deal to be done & definitely the best view of Auckland IMO
make sure you email to book the Fortuna Restaurant. Kids are charged according to their age, which is a fab idea

We stayed at The Takapuna Motor Lodge. The people who own it are expats and they were very friendly and helpful. There is a great bus serice from there to Devonport and from there you can get the ferry across to the CBD. Takapuna is a lovely place on the North Shore and we spent our first 5 months in a rental house on the beach there.
Hope this helps

Formula 1 are part of the Accor group of French-owned hotels/motels and they are Basic! We have stayed in them in France and they are OK if you dont mind their locations - usually in industrial parks/low rental areas and if you can live with the slightly "wacky" design - eg the beds for three of us involved a bunk over a double!
Not sure where that is but there is some "adult" nightlife not far from Queens St and some parts of the CBD are not great at night! Though I can't vouch for that particular location - as usual you get what you pay for (generally).
Good luck, LL
