Reducing the number of parent category visas from 5,500 to 2,000. Can't help but wonder who that's aimed at. The immigrants from the far east who have been bringing their old mum and dad over to New Zealand for years ? OK, ethnic backgrounds aren't being profiled but personally I find it a bit obvious.

John Key has got an election to win next year, so he's got some voter pandering to do. Not outside of Auckland, though.

That is quite a significant increase in the points system they require, i got bang on 140 pounds a year ago so i am pretty lucky i went for it as soon as i could. I feel 160 points is too high especially for people who have invested many years here and contributed just as much tax as a citizen, many skilled workers will find it harder to get in. Just when New Zealand had started to reverse the mass migration to OZ and bring some skilled workers slightly improving wages and the standard of living they put the breaks on one of the main factors for causing such growth

Seems to me the changes will lead to a larger decrease in immigration than they are predicting. Wonder if it will ease the house prices? Suppose thats the aim, along with taking the wind out of Winston Peters sails before the election

to be fair when we were applying the points for outside of Auckland were less, can't remember if it was 10 or 20 less. Once MrF got a job offer his points went way over 160.

Conveniently just a couple of days before the next Parent Category draw :-(

Hang on....

As well as the changes to the SMC the number of places for the capped family categories is being reduced from 5,500 to 2,000 per year and the Parent Category will be temporarily closed for new applications while it is reviewed. As a result, no Expressions of Interest will be selected from the Parent Category Pool from 12 October 2016.
So they are not selecting any EOIs *FROM* the pool?

Does this mean that you can still pay them to submit an EOI but they aren't going to draw any for a while?

Capped family category: capped categories for parents, adult children and siblings.

So it looks as though they will still process adult children and siblings (thought they'd stopped that in favour of parents a few years back?) but aren't drawing ANY Parent EOIs from the pool for the moment (presumably until they work out how many places are left after adult children and siblings are allowed in).

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeesh

I'm lucky my job experience puts me at 160 (190 if I get a job offer outside Auckland) seems like a massive number of people won't make the grade though

if your points are accurate then you are an immediate pull from the pool so no need for job offer to get a visa
