Solar power, anyone use it?
Hi,
Just wondering, does anyone out there ever make use of solar power in the home for heating etc?
Is it available?
If it is, is it expensive to install?

Yes it is available and we would like to use it but we were quoted $5K for solar water heating for our new house. Last month's electricity bill came in at just under $100, so I would think that, for us, solar water heating would take a good while to pay for itself at the present prices.

Friends of ours have a solar panel to heat up the water for their swimming pool and we would be looking to utilise solar power for heating water and to provide underfloor heating when we have our new house built. It is cheaper to have installed as new build, rather than as renovations, particularly for the underfloor heating.
Cheers
