I can't remember ever being as ill as I've been with this flu bug that is doing the rounds. Four days in bed & a deep cough that is draining the energy out of me. I'm now recovering but Bloody Hell what a b****r of a bug. OH had to stay on the recliner for 3 days & nights so he could breathe! Only yesterday,after 3 weeks do I actually feel well & OH is slowly getting better.
Friends are succumbing left right & centre & all ages. This is an epidemic & it's being kept quiet.
A nurse friend said that the pleuric risks are high for pneumonia or pleurisy. Oh joy.

Well keep healthy & well out there peeps. If you have the misfortune, go to bed & rest,rest,rest, do regular steam breathing,keep up a vit c (fruit & veg) intake
& make sure you have a good stock of happy music,dvds etc because this is one depressing illness.

seriously though only after telling MrF about the cat did he mention about the flu bug, not heard of it myself so yes must be keeping it quiet.
hope its run its course and that no one else has to suffer.

Seems many have it down our neck of the woods

Already 5 people from my team have been off for a week or two.

Something to do with the atmosphere i've heard as to why more Christchurch residents suffer from this flu bug than others.

Winter air quality will certainly have a part to play.

As you know Mr BEVS has had pneumonia for a couple of months now. Don't want him catching any bug thank you very much.

Couple of pals have been proper poorly & I note the flu jab sign is back up on the medical centre door. There has also been whooping cough up this way

It's suggested people stay at home. Not sure how this works for the average Joe Soap TBH as no work = no money if one hasn't the sick days and most live, like us, week to week.

I've got some sort of lurgy but it's not flu. I'm looking most attractive with a gammy eye, huge coldsore on my lip, a sore throat, cough & a tight chest

Really don't need this as I was ill from the end of March until late May with Bronchitis. Took four courses of antibiotics to clear up.
Trying to stay in & keep warm but food supplies are running low, so a trip to Whangaparaoa is required today. I shall carry a bell & shout "unclean" every 10 seconds.

I've never met or more unhealthy set of people as the Kiwi's, since we got here 15 months ago everyone seems to have a cold every other week.

When we lived in Auckland my train journeys to and from work consisted of 30 minutes of being sneezed and coughed at and everyone sniffing constantly. Things haven't improved down here in Dunedin, they're all ill all the time.

It's certainly been on the news up here that there's an epidemic in CHCH and it will move across the country over the next few weeks
People are being encouraged to get a flu jab and there are calls for the free flu jab time frame to be extended ( I think it usually ends at the end of June)

So don't panic OP, it certainly has been publicised.

I had my jab in March so am feeling a bit more hopeful...my family haven't had it though so it's all social distancing for them

As for sick NZers...probably due to the awful damn housing rather than constitutional

As for the flu, I heard on the news that the thing going around Chch is expected to head north. I'm going to the Chiefs/Crusaders game on friday, so I'm hoping the folk from Canterbury travelling up will sneeze into their hankies.

We all had flu end of 2006/2007- I never want to get it again. I just decided I'm not getting it. Winter is due to be over in 7 days and I am not getting flu.
