Re: so we are visiting Napier
thanks for all the suggestions, going on the Express Road train this afternoon hopefully followed by trip to the prison, this morning going to do Faraday museum. Met a very nice man waiting for Isite to open this morning, who with a 10 member committee writes the pamphlets and he got me a few off the shelves he thought would be good, so will have something to come back to do at some stage.
Tomorrow off to Rotorua for a couple of days

Splashplanet in Hastings is awsome and there is a campsite just round the corner 2 mins walk so we parked our motor home there last year and spent the whole day at splashplanet. well worth it.

Don't bother with maraetotara falls mentioned above - they aren't natural and are unattractive up close; go to shine falls instead - they are stunning and a beautiful 45 min bush walk. Google them - they are proper lovely. Ocean Spa is crap unless you have small kids, imo.

did the Faraday Museum, brilliant suited all of us, DS son stated "this is cool" half way round so a win there and DD loved it to especially the Tesla coil. even played a tune on some bells from Croydon. Road train was also good, if a bit pricey. Kids had had enough by then, 4pm by the time we had done a bit of a shop so back to motel for dip in the pool
