On our holiday at Ohiwa last year we all ran down to the beach
to be faced with a group of kids all running the opposite way.
An adult with the group told me that he had just been circled
twice by a 1.5 meter Mako shark.

We just had a picnic on the sand instead

New Zealand is one of the few breeding grounds in the world for great whites, however this is in the north on the western side it would appear. However there are many sightings of mako sharks along the east coast bays of Auckland, there are bronze whalers around the Chelsea Sugar factory. In short there are many more sharks around the waters of NZ than you realise.
