Smoggy foggy.

So. We have the first smoggy foggy of the year here. Been coming on for a few days. Little air movement. Plenty wood smoke . Some of it will be unseasoned wood.

I left out some washing last evening and it now wiffs of kippers.

Be interesting to see how the air monitoring records are for this winter. There is a drive here to have people change from wood burners to heat pumps . Funny thing though. New build houses are now wanting wood burners put in as heat pumps hasn't done it for the owners.

the thing with heat pumps is whilst they are on they are ok but there is no residue heat once they are off.
Good thing they act as air con in the summer

Wood burners will probably be banned eventually though and probably starting with Christchurch, Invercargill, Dunedin and Timaru etc. but probably expanding further.

Seems pretty risky, even naieve, to go wood in a city that's not meeting air quality targets if a few years down the line you're pulling out the bloody thing.

Air quality drops below acceptable in the Richmond /Stoke area which is why we chose not to settle there.

The wharf area is lovely , however one still needs to be able to breathe..........says the person who only has a wood burner to heat the house.

We are just in the process of fitting a wood-burning stove with a back boiler. We live in a smoke control zone in Sussex. This is what we are fitting http://www.dunsleyheat.co.uk/yorkshi...ve%20tech.html It's DEFRA exempt so I guess if people in NZ fitted this kind of stove there would hardly be any smog!
