slimming clubs
Hi
Im coming to Wellington soon. New start, new life, new me. Want to join a slimming club like weight watchers or slimming world. Do they exist or is there an equivalent in NZ?
Cheers

Re: slimming clubs
yes know of several people who have done WW. most seem to do it online but there are the clubs around and about. Adverts for Jenny Craig are also on the TV but haven't seen slimming world but again assume that there is an on line option (?)

Re: slimming clubs
I tried Slimming World online a few years ago,but it was difficult to do, because the low fat dairy options aren't as widely available here.
I'm currently doing Weight Watchers at Work, which is working out well. The food lists are biased towards Australia, but the online tools help to work things out, and Countdown sells a lot of Aussie products, because it's owned by Woolworths.
If you join a community group, it might be a good way to meet people as well.

Jenny Craig is really expensive - my friend worked for them as a consultant for 6 years. They push you to buy their food which is about $150 per week. Not doing very well as a company either, closing branches and cutting staff, probably due to the high cost of being a member. Better to do it through WW or doing your own research and eating less and exercising more. The ongoing support of WW would be advantageous.

Re: slimming clubs
Sorry but WW is no better than Jenny Craig. Cemented in my thoughts when I learned about this;
Good luck to anyone who wants to do it, as a business model it's genius. Health wise, I'm not sure they have your best interests at heart. No pun intended.

Is it?
It's not in the interest of either WW or JC to "lose" ones custom by "solving" the issue is it?
By and large the lifestyle one leads in WW or JC is unsustainable once you go it alone.
Sure you'll lose weight, but there many, many people who lose the weight and put all or some back on again. Some even end up heavier than when they started the bloody thing.
Relatively few manage to leave a WW or JC plan and sustain their new figure alone.
They scarcely educate us on food but would rather say "eat this [WW or JC product] as part of your weekly plan and you will lose weight", but don't explain the science or fact behind it.
This is why it's genius, it'll work while you're using them and you stick to the plan. Once you're gone they couldn't care less until you sign up again, which you will do because it worked before so it must be you who is doing something wrong ...
Evil genius.

You've done a very brave thing commenting on a mainly women's interest subject especially as something as touchy as diet and weight loss. (Didn't mean to sound patronising, sorry.)
I've lost a lot of weight on a Rosemary Conley diet plan. Yep, she went out of business a couple of years ago.
Unfortunately I've put it all back on because emigrating is a biach.
Anyway, this morning I've gone swimming, then done a session on the static bike then walked home. Kinda like a mini triathlon as I'm reasonably keen on losing the weight that I regained which I accept will take time, effort and patience.
Good luck to all on any health and fitness plan for whatever purpose, I hope you reach your goals.
