Actually the argument is that many 457 holders work for less than their Ozzie counterparts and that employers use temp visas to depress wages and take advantage of migrants.
This from the Courier Mail this morning:
"Unions, and Labor when it was in opposition, criticised the 457 visas, citing their potential to enable the exploitation of foreign workers and undercut local wages and conditions"

I must say though that we don't feel at all exploited or taken advantage of (the only time we've felt that was in NZ)
