Shipping dilemma... ski's?!

Shipping dilemma... ski's?!
Hi all 
Well we are in a bit of a dilemma... we were going to ship our stuff over (part of a container) a couple of weeks before we fly - but then realised all our ski gear (ski's, boots, clothes etc) will be in the container and we wanted to fit in some skiing while we travel the islands for a month when we arrive!
It wouldn't arrive in time for our travels then though, so I contacted removers and asked them when they would need to collect for the stuff to arrive same week as us... they said mid-April, 3 weeks away!
Not nearly done with all the packing and sorting, plus they said they cant guarantee the arrival date as they have to wait until the container is full
so it may not arrive in time anyway 
Sooooo, do we ship mid-April, panic pack, be without TV's etc for a few weeks and hope that it arrives the week we do...
Or do we ship a couple of weeks before we go, as originally planned and miss out on the skiing part of the trip?
Or anyone have any other ideas? Don't really fancy lugging all our ski gear with us plus it would cost a lot more excess baggage...

just hire some at the ski resort whe you get there?
