Default shipping companies from UK to NZ

hi almost ready to look at different shipping companies to take our belongings to NZ, can i just ask does anyone know who are the best and the cheapest companies. Can i also ask do you have to give them an address for where the container needs to go in NZ or is it stored there until you find permanent accommodation

Hi,

I'm going through the painful process at the moment too. Had Robinsons, Pearsons, Anglo Pacific, Pickfords, and Crown tomorrow. At the moment, Robinsons are the cheapest. Waiting on a quote from Pickfords. I havent given them an address because I havent got one yet. It can be stored but you will pay for storage in NZ.

Hope that helps.

Hi

We went with Pickfords after pushing them hard on price. Make sure you go independent though on the marine insurance as all the freight companies charge double what you can get through a specialist. We used Letton Percival and they've been ok.

Make sure they dont use NZ Vanlines at this end. They come up with extra charges. If you dont pay they keep your stuff and charge for storage so no choice really. Also both us and another couple we met had stuff missing

Hi

We have gone with Anglo, they are in the house right this very minute. When the stuff gets to NZ they have organised for NZ Vanlines to deliver our belongings to us. Can you please tell me what extra charges they put on and roughly how much??

I can do without any holds ups

Cheers
Jo

Hi,

We had Pickfords and they were the cheapest. The guys worked hard and very fast - if you stand still for too long they pack you, so be careful! Just hoping that everything arrives in one piece and nothing goes missing! We don't have an address/house sorted yet but I gave them my friends address who lives in the same area we're heading. We took out marine insurance with Letton Percival too - a lot cheaper and very helpful.

Good luck

Came up with silly reasons to not unload at our place.(apparently too windy) This means you have to pay for everything to be transferred by one of their trucks.(we'd paid door to door at the UK end). Also means you're not around when boxes are opened by MAF. Were charged around $500 on top.

Hi,

Just waiting for a quote from Pickfords. Can I ask what your quote was and for what size container? Also, with the insurance, did you get cover by insuring individual items or just a general overall amount? Sorry for all the questions. Just waiting for Crown to come around now.

Cheers Bev

Hi Bev,

No worries, that's what we're all here for ! It cost us £4700.00 for a 40ft container door to door. I spoke to Ian Harrison at Letton Percival. He was very helpful and so patient (he needed to be, with me - I found it a bit complicated but he explained it all to me and made it seem so simple. It is, I guess, it's just me!). Give him a call - 0151 236 4568, local call for you too - say I gave you his name and he'll be made up!!! (he'll probably hang up on you, !) Seriously, he will have a lot of time for you and he'll go through everything until it's sorted. I couldn't arrange our insurance till the day before the packers came (long story) so it was all very quick, last minute and I called him loads of times that day and he was great - would definitely recommend them.

Any more questions - just ask. Keep us posted

Good luck

We used Anglo Pacific and the companies they used in Scotland and Wellington were both excellent.

Just over £3k for a 20ft container. They gave us very good advice on MAF and the only thing that didn't make the journey intact was a cheap Ikea lamp.

I also used Letton & Percival for marine transit insurance as it was half the price and Ian took the time to go through the policy with us. Furniture left with Anglo Pacific on Friday - a 20 FT container about £3500 - after getting them to lower the price, other shipping companies were cheaper though ( by £100 approx). I'll let you know what conditions it is in when it gets there.

We used John Mason for shipping and also took their insurance out because they price matched.
Everything arrived in one piece and the service both at UK end and here was fab.

Thanks Gay, will do

Sounds like most people have had good experiences with their shippers which is a good sign.

We used John Mason and it has taken 11 weeks so far on a 6-8 week quote. Our belongings are in NZ but just not in our house. We now have a surprise new bill to pay as well The Moving Company want $470 which wasnt in the original quote from John Mason, JM said when they gave us an estimate that MAF may or may not inspect and it would be about $85 to inspect two items and then more if they wanted to inspect the whole container. Feel naive and mislead. Whoever you get, ask them about additional costs on this side and also I have now found out that the container seals may not be broken at the property so this is not door to door. You get what you pay for. I couldnt recommend JM or The moving company, but the guys that packed our entire lives where the most friendly, amazing, curtious people in the world.

Have you finished getting your quotes yet. Was Robinsons the cheapest and also, have you sorted your insurance out yet!
