Hi Christchurch folks! I am trying to work out what to ship from our home in UK. It's giving me a real headache and we want to keep costs down. Any advice would be appreciated.

depends if you will have money to spend when you are here, and remember you may have to hire stuff like washing machines and fridges to get you by before the container arrives

Except cheese, the cheese is like $10/kg here...and it is actually sold by the Kilogram. Who uses a kg of cheese?

We have found that not everything is more expensive. We have seen tvs that are cheaper than in the UK, but only when they are in the sale and it isn't always convenient to wait for a sale. Play stations seem to be cheaper here, but games are much more expensive. We bought everything with us in a 40ft container. From memory it cost £7,000 including insurance. We shipped ours 7 weeks before we left as it was easier to borrow stuff in UK.
