Mitre10 for plastic racks/shelves. Look in an AutoParts store too e.g. Repco for garage racking/shelving.
I got a free standing shelving unit from Mitre10 which I use indoors for what would have been, 'loft fodder' e.g. old backpacks, cool box, overnight bag, shoes, cat basket etc. However, with no loft in our house we've had to find room to put it in the house. The shelving units in the garage have got the leaf blower, saw, old slide projector etc on them.
Warehouse may have racks, shelves etc for storage. Is there a shop called, 'StorageBox' near you ? They have racks, shelves, boxes etc which are useful. All sorts of 'storage solutions'.

Got 3 or 4 garage shelves that I brought over from the UK a few years ago.
They're about 2M x 0.5M by 25mm with brackets. Sort of a DIY job but are great. Not gonna need them for at least 18 months and may never need them.
Could have sent them desmondo84's way but a bit far unless he wants to come down to Tauranga pick them up. in a couple weeks ?

Make sure the garage walls can support shelving, you may have to go down the racking route. I bought my racks from Mitre 10 end of line bits.

I bought these just a few weeks ago to store all my home brew stuff on, look flimsy as shit but are actually pretty sturdy when they're built up...

We use old kitchen units and shelving that people are getting rid of free or very cheap. Try Trade Me or local groups on Facebook. Also keep an eye on the community notice/ad boards in local supermarkets.
Also hooks in the beams in the garage with bungees are useful!

Storage Box were bloody expensive last time I went.
If you're cheap (like me), or to put it another way, if you like to use sustainable/re-usable materials
Try the Sallies - they often have old office furniture at the one near us, I got a decent set of metal shelves for my garage.
Also Freecycle is worth a shot.

Re: Shelves/racks for garage?
There is usually someone advertising an old kitchen to be disposed of for free on Trade Me. Otherwise there might be a trader who deals with secondhand office furniture - or even a company who is looking to offload their office kit?
I for example have kitted out my entire garage over Labour weekend with units from an office that was relocating and would have had to pay to have the units they didn't want to keep (move) taken away and recycled (or pulped). I got four shelf above with cupboard under units and four straight shelves - they were happy to let me have them as it saved them money. I actually gave them some money to put towards a leaving BBQ or whatever as they were superb quality and I was delighted with them. Made for a busy, tiring long weekend though - they were hellish heavy.
