Default Schools in Kerikeri and surrounding area

I'd like to hear your comments please on what choices are available for the kids (8yr and 11yr girls) with regards to schooling. We had a look around Paihia primary last May when we visited and they told us the kids can either leave for high school after year 6 or stay in primary and then move to high school after year 7. Does this apply to all primary schools in the area? What other primary school choices are available? Is Kerikeri the only high school? Do you think it would be good for the 11yr to start again in primary with her younger sister (she started high school Sept in the UK) to gain some new friends before moving to high school or just plunge straight in?!
