Rumour mill please...

So Aucklanders who are your favourite inappropriate comedian/entertainers at the moment?

Now we need to be careful here because if we connect the wrong dots this gets illegal, moderators will have to come and delete the thread and maybe punish me .

Name suppression is taken very seriously for cases like this in NZ.

I suggest the moderators close this thread.

name suppression is a disgrace in NZ. Absolute disgrace. :frown:

I've been following the whole Whale OIl etc thingy and it's interesting comparing how name suppression for crimes is treated here in BC, Canada vs NZ. For serious charges like paedophilia, looking at child porn etc. there is rarely name suppression here unless the perpetrator is related to the victim, and even then, it's not always given (I can think of a few cases where it wasn't). It just seems like they use it for any old excuse in NZ. Talk about old boy's club, pat on the back, we'll look after you mate. Disgusting.

Seems to be a joke here as well TBH :). This is NZ, everyone knows someone who knows someone who saw him walking out of the court.

I like the way loads of celebrity comedians instantly said "not me" making it more obvious who it actually was .

But that's why is makes even less sense to have name suppression

The thing I find most ridiculous is if it is so sensitive and done to protect the victim, why are the media allowed to draw attention to the person's job or where they live and give out hints as to who the person is. Either the identity is suppressed or not.

They are thankfully talking of reforms to the name suppression laws as the original intent is being abused and it has become so blatantly obvious of late that every sports personality, come Z lister celebrity is being granted name suppression. :(
