Liberal? Hardly - just to my way of thinking, the man shooting the unarmed teenagers is the brainless coward.

Have the Tory cuts been so swift that there were insufficient police to respond effectively when it first started? Is the whole Army overseas somewhere lol?

Seen it before but not seen the oh so lame response before.
Yes I am afraid the cuts have been that swift. Civilian workers were cut from our forces months back and police officers taken off the streets to infill their jobs. As a result the Metropolitan force has had to draft in officers from all over the UK hence shortages then created in Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester etc and more resulting rioting and looting. If the Met had enough active police on the street this situation would more than likely never had happened.

Unarmed?? Bricks, sticks, poles, steel bins, signage, bricks, petrol bombs, street furniture? Unarmed? Yeah right. Bastards the lot of them. I would love to see a bunch of them face some police marksmen. I doubt if they would be oh so brave as they have been with their pathetic posturing and struting. They are the cancerous vermin of society. Cut them down.

Do you really believe that? It would take an awful lot of coppers to have a bunch of them outside every shop in London.

No they would be restoring order. Not brainless, not cowardly just needed in these dire situations. The LFB have said last night was their WORST night since WW2. Still not a war zone eh? Still need the softly softly approach? I think not.

Wink Re: Riots.

Well Dave was typically Tory, only talked about the knee jerk reaction of deploying police. A little feel good cuddle for voters without really promising to address any of the underlying issues.

Come on Genesis you can't really believe that the way to confront civil discourse is genocide?

Genesis:

We have here a generation of young people who are completely alienated from society. Why? Because successive governments have ruined the education system in the UK to a point where it means nothing to these kids. They have no skills, they have no future and though we have given them a sort of education, for many of them it is of no practical use. We should have never scrapped the technical education side of the training spectrum. Of course, as Charismatic has said, it is no use training them up if there are no jobs at the end of it.

Adding fuel to this, we have the liberalisation of both legislation and punitive measures. Young people need defined boundaries, followed by sensible retribution if said boundaries are crossed. We can not, as a society, suddenly change the goalposts and say 'well you have got away with it for years, but now we are going to shoot you'. These kids, many of them, have no role models - we need to provide that - not provide a target for further unrest.

The answer is not blowing in the wind - we have been doing that for too long. We need an education system that is relevant and geared towards maximizing the potential of young people, not one which is designed to make them fail. We need a structured entry into the workforce through real apprenticeship schemes, and make 'Trade skills' something to aspire to, not a dirty word dressed in a boiler suit.

Short term we need to regain control - and that will have to be done with force. But please don't shoot them - that makes us no better than them. Once we have regained control, then we need to punish the perpetrators and then set about turning them into valued members of society. That is the ultimate aim - surely? Set up youth detention centres, give them the discipline and skills to become decent adults.

Or we could solve all the problems of the UK using your method - go out and murder a few teenagers. Not really a plan, is it.

How ironic is the comparison of these scumbags, organising looting on their £300 mobile phones and £600 laptops, with those who suffered genunine hardship through no fault of their own in the 1930s.

Genocide? I am talking about taking out a few evil bastards who are ruining life for the majority. Genocide my arse. Its a bit of 'sreet justice' at worst. But really it would be about restoring order.

Its NOT murder. Its something that other countries do, looting will be dealt with by lethal force. What is the problem? Don't want to get shot? Don't riot or loot. You make these bastards sound like the victims. I don't care what shit they have in their lives there is never an excuse for this crap.

I don’t think young people feel alienated but they do need options. As you say back in the old days or in a developed continental European country they could become an apprentice and learn a trade. 1 in 4 businesses in Germany and Austria offer apprenticeships, in the UK it’s less than 1 in 10.

The complete craziness of this situation is that actually the UK needs industry, one of the reasons for the deficit is that they are net consumers (like the U.S., Spain, Greece etc.) rather than balancing their trade. So we have all this labor being used ineffectively (and you know what they say about idle hands)…there must be some way to put these things together. People with jobs, houses and cars don’t riot because they have too much to lose. Capitalism is an effective means of social control but you can’t simply ignore one part of society.

Accumulate to this the UK population age demographics and it becomes clear the UK is actually setting itself up for a difficult future.

Smile Re: Riots.

Perfectly balanced response to the situation:
Dalston & Hackney saw locals out in force to keep looters away.
Suddenly I feel proud to be an England-ish again .

And from the Mash:
Seismologists reported a sudden lurch to the right as people who own tagines found themselves calling for the immediate deployment of the Parachute Regiment and a couple of RAF Tornadoes.
