Smile Retirement

Hi, my husband and I will be retiring to New Zealand on a parental visa. Both my kids live and work in Auckland, but property is just too expensive there for us. We would like to live within a few hours drive of Auckland and are looking at Cambridge and Tauranga, as we would like to be close to good healthcare and support services as we get older. Which place is better Cambridge or Tauranga and what areas should we look at to buy property. If anyone can suggest any other area's to consider please let me know. Many thanks

Good luck winning the lottery of being one of the 1000 a year for this visa. It's not been open for ages and while loads will not meet the new higher sponsorship financial requirements and pull out, I still reckon they'll be loads more than 1000 peeps who enter the lottery

I lived in Cambridge for a few years and loved it, until it started to grow. It used to be a nice town but now it's just an enormous sub division and the town's character has gone. Tauranga has far more going on than cambridge, more shops, more cafes, better infrastructure and a beach. Tauranga is about an hours drive further away from Auckland and is often longer due to road works. Both places are now frighteningly expensive to buy property in, probably no cheaper than many places in Auckland

Just out of interest have you had your Expression of Interest accepted, and had your Parental Visa approved?

Just asking because our EOI is still in the queue and we have no current guidance for when it might get to the front.
