Default renting in auckland

Hi all,

We are flying out to Auckland in May and will look to rent a house when we arrive. We need to be somewhere with easy access to the Waitakere, Middlemore and the Starship Hospital centrally - any ideas of a nice district?

Also, once we find somewhere we like how long do the rental formalities take before we can move in? What documentation will we need?

Another thing - we will need somewhere to stay in Auckland in the interim - as we have a 1 year old a self contained unit with kitchen facilities would be ideal. Anyone know anywhere nice but inexpensive!?

Ta!

Rentals are fairly quick to arrange, it depends when the property is available. I hadn't rented before (well not since my student days back in the UK) and so had no previous refs, but the agent was happy to have my employers details.

Check out trade me for ideas, I'm on the Eastern side of Auckland so can't advise re: areas. May would be the end of the main tourist season, so I'd guess you could try to bargain decent short term rates at the smaller hotels.

Hmmm...I would say Blockhouse Bay cos I like it here.
It's easy to all of those hospitals that you mentioned.

Pt Chev(alier) is lovely too...really easy to the motorways a very child friendly beach, great cafes etc

Otherwise you can just go central and then fan out from there
