renting an apartment

Hi, I am a kiwi & my wife & I are moving to NZ in April permanently, whilst we are of retirement age I have a full time job to start on our return ( commission only) we get full UK pensions around $2,000 a month, so my question is, are we going to find it difficult to get a tenancy agreement because of age/income or for any other reason?

Thanks.

Hi There, when we came over in 2011 we didn't have any trouble getting a rental even though neither of us had a confirmed job at the time. May depend on the area you are going to???

Hi Reylan, Thanks for that, as I will be working in Auckland city we are hoping to get an apartment there, I'm wondering if it is easier using a private landlord, also what age are you? That could make a big difference.

Thanks again.

Hi there,

We were 54 when we moved over but we didn't move to a big city and not sure if that will make any difference. We went through an real estate agent and didn't really have any problems.

I hope you get sorted once you arrive. You could always email some of the agents and ask if it would be a problem? The big ones are Harcourts, they may be able to help with advice, but Google agents in NZ and give that a try .

It's been a while since we arrived but agents really couldn't care less about age or where the money was coming from to pay the rent. We had no jobs at the start, yet the real estate agents and other folks we had to deal with were mostly of view that it simply wasn't an issue for us. i.e. In coming from the UK that you immediately tick all the right boxes in terms of having good character and assumed to have a healthy bank balance. :sneaky:
