Rental references.
Hi
Just wondered if anyone had suggestions for procuring rental references when you haven't rented for more than 12 years!
Thanks.

We have supplied our new boss, the person we are renting the holiday home from and some good friends who can give us a character reference, in fact the estate agents form only asks for character references

Do they even check references? I thought they only kept the in case of people doing a runner.

Re: Rental references.
I didn't have any references the first time I rented here (had never rented before I came over)
When they knew I had just arrived all they wanted to know was that I had a job and could pay the rent, the didn't even ask for references.

Re: Rental references.
Hi, we dont really have any either as owned property for last 15yrs - but our reloc agent said its not an issue as long as you supply job offer letter. To back that up we have provided estate agent sales details from the house we sold in UK, complete with mortgage redemption statement showing we did sell it for the asking price. Havent found suitable rental yet but we did apply for one which they were happy to proceed with - the owner then decided to reduce lease term so we pulled out.

You don't really need them - however - if you go for a property that half a dozen other people want, then if you can supply something you'll have a better chance of getting the property you want.
We had a friend who was a policeman, another who was a solicitor to write character references for us.

We used an old reference from when my husband was in a flat share over 20 years ago and a more recent reference we got from my Dad which wasn't completely untrue.
We have now got two much more recent/relevant references from our rental adventures last year.

Re: Rental references.
We asked our agent about this when we were looking. Her reply was "you got a Visa right? If Immigration are happy to let you in, that's reference enough for me"
I wouldn't worry about it too much. You would have one one do a character reference for you but we never bothered. Good luck house hunting. Suss out the heating before you sign any dotted line.

Is this a property with Harcourts by any chance???
Not required if this will be your first property in NZ. Just give them a proof of salary and mortgage payments back in Blighty - that'll be more than enough

Not sure if your reply was for me, but no, no property searching yet as we're still in the UK planning our departure. I asked the question so that I could be sure I had the relevant paperwork with me on arrival.
