Were they a member of the BAR overseas moving group? this is different to being an ordinary member of the BAR in that they have an advance payment guarantee. This means that if something happens to the financial situation of a company whilst your goods are in transit you will still get your goods delivered by another member at no extra cost - there is a list of members on their website - http://www.bar.co.uk/Move_With_BAR/M..._Overseas.aspx

You might of already looked into all that if you've spoken to BAR, but if not its worth a look - and to those in the moving process it is definately worth asking these questions of your mover, it happens rarely - but as unfortunately chocolate cake found out - it can happen!

I hope everything gets resolved for you as quickly and painlessly as possible!

Sorry Robbo you've misunderstood me, if I'm a little unclear it's because I've been threatened and tend not to talk in too much detail. I paid & contracted one company. They sub-contracted out to an NZ company. You try taking action against the UK company in such a case, it would cost you thousands. :curse: Where were you when I had all my problems?! lol. Are you a legal eagle or something?

If you paid or contracted with two different people then that is completely different and you would be on your own with each party.

Nope just a lot of years do contractual deals both in the UK and abroad, and also with sub-contracting work out to foreign entities. There are many ways of getting a company to do what you want, all painful in different ways but if you know you are on firm ground the last thing they want is big expenses and lots of public bad press it just doesn't add up commercially. Although some companies don't seem to understand how to run a business. I wish I could have helped you it is all very hard and very emotive for sure.

Just to provide an update, as a few people have posted private mails.

I did take legal advise and could have taken the situation further, however this would need to have been in the UK, and with typical legal costs of 300gbp a hour and no guarantee of a quick resolution I decided to bite the bullet and pay virtually in full again to have my goods delivered. This despite the fact that they had already arrived in New Zealand when Lawlers the UK removal company went into administration.

I paid the UK exporters Excess International and the removals here in NZ, and finally saw my goods on 13th May.
I expect to have very little chance of receiving anything from the receivers, but thankfully nothing missing or broken when I got my container after the extended storage, small mercies!

A few have asked the companies involved, they are mentioned on another forum:
http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/show...t=17776&page=3

Earlier I refrained mentioning the New Zealand party involved on the above forum, however as they made additional storage charges for the involuntary storage of my goods and profited from the situation, I have no reluctance to do so anymore and have put their details there too.
