Hi All,

Do employers in New Zealand help with relocation fees or is that only in rare cases?

Hi Perry, Not really sure about whether employers pay relocation costs. I would imagine it depends on how much they want you in post. My OH has a job offer from a Mine in Huntly Wakaito and they have recently lost 50% of their workforce to Australia. They were desperate for experienced miners as they didn't want production to suffer. They placed adverts in the Barnsley chronicle(South Yorkshire) and the HR and Production manager flew to the UK to interview shortlisted candidates. The reason they came to South Yorkshire was due to the high number of skilled mineworkers. The company paid for OH's pre employment medical - £200. The are also paying for the immigration medicals x 4, visa's x 4,( This is to be paid by us upfront and reimbursed on arrival) Flights to Auckland x 4, 1 month's accommodation in NZ, 2 week's car hire and furniture rental costs until container arrives in NZ. This is an exceptionally good package as we could not afford to do this without the company's help.
We do, however, have to stay in NZ and the same job, for at least 2 yrs or the costs have to be returned to them - aprox £10,000. I do believe that any employer paying relocation costs has this clause to re coup their money if you decide to leave them after they have paid out such a large sum of money to get you and your family out there. Can't see us wanting to come home though!

It depends on the employer, things might be slightly different now with the credit crunch. But when we came over the Auckland District Health Board paid for my partners flight plus one months accomodation costs for the two of us. Which was a real bonus as we did not expect it.

Getting NZ$3000 towards flights and 2 weeks accommodation for 4 of us from ODHB.

We came over almost 3 years ago & did persue relocation help, but all the Auckland District Health Board did was pay our $45 Taxi fee from the airport to our hotel, so some of you can count yourself very lucky.
The driver was a miserable bugger btw!!!
