Default Recce advice please

We are planning to come over at Easter for a recce.

We'll have 2 weeks+ a bit to see Auck. Tauranga and Welly. We have been to NZ twice on holidays 7-8 yrs ago, but this is not going to be a holiday it's a fact finding trip!
If you have done a similar recce route do you have any advice?
Please give me some ideas of places to stay(motel prices), car hire, places to eat out. Anything else you can think of that would be helpful to me in organising the trip.
Thanks
Helen

Hi,
we did a recce visit exactly same as yours - auckland, bay of plenty, tauranga, welly and back in December. We hired a motorhome from auckland (Ezy rental - cheap as chips). We had first two nights in auckland (avondale 1st night and northcote second night) using motorhome everytime we wanted to go out. Travelled all over north island. Hard slog to welly but stunning scenery on route and completely do-able! Good luck!

Hi Caitlin,
Do you think we'll be warm enough in a motorhome in April? Was it easy to park? Did you have to pre book the campsites?

Evening. We went to NZ last June and had a motorhome. When in Taupo and Rotorua it got down to minus two degrees. As we had an electric hook up we could use the little fan heater that they supplied. We were lovely and toasty. We did not pre book any camp site, just turned up early afternoon. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a good idea. Will put this to hubby tomorrow after he's had a sleep and can make sense of my ramblings
