Reasonable pub grub in Auckland CBD ?
Can anyone recommend any reasonable pub grub place in the Auckland CBD area please?
Not somewhere loud with mahoosive sports telly screens and the like. Just somewhere you can go in the evening for a reasonably priced pint and a roast or similar.

I would always recommend Galbraith's Alehouse, not quite the CBD, but only a half hour's walk. Never been there myself (only been to Auckland once) but like their beer and the menu looks good Eat | Galbraiths Alehouse and I think the name is very classy!

OOooooo.
Scotch egg and a quality pie.
Am liking the sound of this.
I've not been to Auckland since 2004 so it's been a while.

Not exactly a pub but Jacktar and vicinity is good place for early evening stroll, some drinks and eats and watching the world go by. There are other places along there around by the there and around the fish market that might take your fancy Urban Turban - Bombay Style Contemporary Indian Food
North Wharf is very much more family friendly than Viadauct harbor which gets a bit mentals with rowdy bars and drunks later on.
There's also http://spittingfeathers.co.nz/ but can't comment on that as haven't been there.

Vulcan lane, right in the middle of the CBD just off Queen St
There's 2 or 3 nice small traditional pubs, not full of kids

Personally I like the Northern Steamship. The beer is good (Macs owned) and the food is pretty good. Although I have also been there and had a few ales sat in a comfy chair gone and eaten elsewhere in Britomart instead... It is good for 'people watching' as it gets busy but not mental. Or, in the vicinity: Brew on Quay, Auckland Bar > Home Has a quirky rooftop garden terrace thing.
Both of these have wide appeal - ranging from jailbait to old duffers (not together)
Otherwise the Irish pub in Market Sq - O'Hagans, in the Viaduct is OK too.

If you want good english beer and grub try Spitting Feathers in CBD, real chips too and a good selection of beers. I think it is owned by same people who have English corner shop. Been for lunch a few times which was good, dont know about evenings.

I also like Brew on the Quay. Nice atmosphere and good selection of food and drink.

Galbraiths all the way. Not hugely atmospheric but I have ended up there on all of my significant events

Are you heading up this way Missus??? You're welcome to come and stay with us if you would like. Not pub grub but a couple of my favourite places are Elliot Stables (behind Smith & Caughey), you can order from different restaurants there, French, Italian, etc. Not too badly priced. My other fave is Vive Vace which is behind what was the large Whitcoull's on Queen Street.
OH knows loads of great places in the CBD and I'm sure he'd be happy to host you if he's available.

Spitting feathers is a great place. very cheap beer both English and local brew. bottles of Heineken for $4 all day and night. Food is quite good and not badly priced. Then there is Bluestoneroom behind Spitting Feathers same priced beers but not tried food.
