Reason NOT to be in the UK!
Here's a reason to feel lucky to be in NZ, not the UK!

The main reason why I left such a lovely country. It has been ruined by overpopulation. Everything is crowded..more or less. YUK, YUK, YUK. It will take many, many generations for NZ to be ruined the same way. But it will happen.

Well it is a city-beach, I am sure there are plenty of others that are not so densely populated.

It reminded me of the pictures that are always taken of Bournemouth sands during a hot bank holiday.
The pictures only ever show the beach area around and close to Bournemouth pier. The sensationalism is to show 'record numbers' and all that guff. They never show the same beach a couple of miles further down ,like Southbourne or Hengistbury, which are never anywhere near so crowded and have plenty of space.
There is 7 miles of sandy beach in that area. Not to mention Shell Bay.

I always wonder why they go to the "beach" (for me, beach=sand, and there's not much of that at Brighton). If you look at the photo, hardly anyone in the water, which is probably about 12C at this time of year. If you just want to sit in the sun, why not go to the park?
Just by way of contrast, here's the beach where we had Xmas lunch, photo taken on Xmas day. 40min drive and 10min boat trip from Auckland CBD
