OK here's a couple more, for those relocating with children

For school searching:

http://www.ero.govt.nz/ is the NZ 'equivalent' of the UK's ofsted. There is a search facility on the LHS of the homepage to search for all the schools in a particular area. You can then access the latest reports. Schools in NZ have a decile ranking, which I believe is mainly based on the socio-economic profile of the intake/area, 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest rank.

Home Educators: www.home.school.nz

Steiner schools in NZ: http://www.ch.steiner.school.nz/dire...mes/nzrss.html

Sunshine_and_Rain Re Sausages: There is a really good butchers in Geraldine in the South Island. The shop is next to "The scottish shop" He does some very nice bangers. When we get over there we have a recipe for Lincolnshire sausages for him to have a go at.

A couple of relocation companies I got from someone I met at the south west meet. They organise somewhere for you to stay when you first arrive (hotel, motel, holiday home), hire car, they buy in startup groceries to your requirements and once you're settled they show you around the place to familiarise yourself with it, find out where the shops, agencies etc. are. That's all for £140. For £200 they will also find you a school for your kids in a 'zoned' (i.e. high demand) area.

Inland Revenue Department

When you start work in NZ you should register with your local IRD office, who will issue you with an IRD or tax file number. To apply for your IRD number you need to complete an IRD form and send a copy of your passport. (www.ird.govt.nz or freephone 0800-227 774) IRD numbers are usually issued within 5 working days.

There is a link to ebay nz on www.ebay.com.au or try www.ebay.co.nz By the way, nz sausages and black pudding are a damn sight better than the crap in oz that go by the same names. cant fry ozzie black pudding for starters cos it just crumbles and turns all watery :scared:

Just found this website that is very useful -

http://www.ubd.co.nz/

It's a New Zealand business directory, I suppose along the same lines as yell.co.nz.

Another useful website -

http://www.zmonline.com

It's a NZ radio station that offers online listening.

Thought it would be good for getting a feel for the place, but it just sounds the same as all the independant stations in the UK!!

Cheers,

PP

For fitted children's shoes in the Auckland area, try Future Feet,
either in Ponsonby near the children's bookshop or in Milford Mall on the North Shore.

If you are planning on renting then you will find the NZ Dept of Housing and Building site helpful. The link below is to the rental section which gives the weekly rent for different areas in NZ.

Missing current affairs and comedy shows from Blighty? If you have RealPlayer installed on your PC, you can listen to radio shows (check out Radio 4 for comedy, there's LOADS). You can also listen live to all BBC radio stations (even those you're too old for - caught 1Extra and thought of Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon: "I'm too old for this s**t!"). BBC London (particularly Robert Elms) and Radio 4 are highly recommended in the 80s chick/Sega Mad household.
