Is it really that bad??
Hi
At the risk of starting off another slagging of NZ, we just don't get it. What all of us who are making plans to come to NZ want to know is "is life that bad" as some on here say it is.
We know everyone has a different outlook, but surely if you've done enough research and been and seen, are there that many surprise. and even if there are the odd 1 or 2, aren't there Compensations that out way them.
Please don't post with it's s**t, c**p and all that, but if you have genuine thoughts and experiences, all over here would love to hear them.

That's the general plan, just keep getting bad vib's from some post's.
Kipper's 60 mil thought we'd be playing in the euro champ this summer,
But hey, will make our own minds up once we've been over.
Keep them coming guys.

Look, if you enjoy deserted places and don't mind skrimping and saving, have thick enough skin to stand the xenophobic attitude of the natives this may be the place for you. As they say in a first world country not too far from here 'Give it a whirl Shirl!'

It certainly feels that way sometimes. But there is some concrete evidence to suggest it's not much better...
Fact: NZ's building standards in recent years have been no better than that of a third world country.
Fact: More than 68% of houses in NZ have corrogated iron roofs, even new builds. These are still only used in Developing countries.
And they refer to towns as 'townships' and there are flys everywhere!

I want to add my 5 cents worth.
We have been here in Wellington just over 3 years now and life is absolutely brilliant, NZ is a wonderful place to live as is Wellington and we are far better off than we were in the UK with the life style that we have now.
New Zealand does have it's problems but then again what country doesn't. When you consider how the UK has gone, and it seems to be getting worse every day, life is better here.
Definitely a case of the grass is greener this side of the fence.

You just have to look at the 5* green standards of buildings now being pushed for, Kumototo on Welly waterfront is the first green building to get this rating, its heading the right way, how many 3rd world countries have do you know aiming at this level of environmental ratings in their buildings???

Re: Is it really that bad??
From what I have seen so far I'd say thats a bit rubbish mate! Most of the new developments and re-developments in Welly are of a decent quality, the architecture may be a bit dull and not up with the UK, but the workmanship and quality of materials is much the same IMHO, its differnt in places but is pretty comparable...

Google this bro: Leaky homes in New Zealand.
There's plenty more where that came from.

Yes, I know. You'll probably say thatch.
If it's good enough for England, then it's good enough for me.

Look at San Fransisco. A proper country with a solution NOT a lame excuse.
