reality hits !! - Job offer in Hawkes Bay

Hi Guys

A expat Nubie to the site here, I have been reading with interest for a few months but this is my first post.
Well we are a family of 5 plus the Dog, the oldest child is in the USA at Uni, the middle child is in the first year a sixth form and the youngest is 13 and at senior school. We have been contemplating a “life change” and all that thinking about it has just turned into reality as the wife has just been offered a Job in Hawkes Bay!

After reading some of the Horror stories and some of the more positive posts we now have to do some very serious thinking about what we do next.
As the wife will be the main income when we arrive and most posts say we could live and rent on salery of around 67-70k. As I would like to add to the household income what are the job prospects like? I am 47 years old an ex military and Fire service officer and now currently employed in aviation equipment / technology business development & sales but would assume that this line of work is rare in NZ at the moment. I have my heavy goods license and would be happy to go back to lorry driving to make ends meet. What are the chances of me finding employment around Hawkes Bay or North Island at the moment.

Many Thanks in anticipation of your responses but I am sure this will be the first of very many questions.

Hi and welcome.
Congratulations to your wife getting a job. The job market does seem to be picking up and as long as your open minded about what you want to do it wont take long to find something.
We came over at the end of October laast year, I had a job and it took my husband about 6 weeks to find something.

Good Luck
