Not exactly over the moon ( excuse the pun) about the way the NZ authorities have handled this. Sounds a bit extreme whilst we have a local rape case of a lady walking alone on Monday night and nobody caught as there are no police available.

Sounds like NZ prisons have got human rights down to a fine art whilst the nation in is an uproar about parents disciplining their children.

Sorry BE members but I gotta say. Whilst there are desperate attempts to attack me on my postings and my negative points on NZ there is a lot of room for improvement.

For example the hit n run death of a young Korean in Whangarei that is unsolved.

These are the inconsistencies of NZ that scare me and show pure hypocrisy in terms of human rights or priorities.

Please don’t respond to this tell me to F off as that is really not intelligent.

Campbells..... no one wants to listen. They are all desperate to come to a land where things like this don't happen. NZ IS the promised land. They believe that as they leave the rotting UK and they believe that as they close their eyes to any crime that happens in NZ. For them, they come on and post how awful the UK has become and how they cannot wait to arrive in the promised land where the sun always shines, there is no crime and certainly no RAPE - HIT and RUNS and where the immigration is all nicely controlled.... cough cough.....

Campbells I don't really feel sorry for that woman as she was an illegal overstayer.

Personally, I think the authorities have totally done the right thing, it's a shame that the UK immigration services don't have the same strict ethics.

OK, maybe a bit heavy handed, but she was here illegally. Of all the people who post on here who are applying for visas, the financial costs, the heartache and stress, why should someone just stroll in, marry the first kiwi that comes along and skip the whole process?

I totally agree and I am all for dealing with illegal immigrants and yes I really wish the UK had a stronger policy. My point is more really, the way they carted her of to jail like that when NZ has in the past opened arms to some political refuges with some real dodgy background and here’s this lady who I agree bent the rules is slapped into jail.

I don’t think it is balanced when (for example) the rapists I posted about in the other thread is probably walking the streets due to lack of police resources.

Personally I think they could have used a softer approach to Ms Moon.

I mean the fact that Ms Moon was not exactly hiding away and I think if you gave her the benefit of the doubt that she actually is in a legit marriage.

We all have our opinions and I am open to reading to yours. Good point. Cheers

Who is this 'they'? Am I 'they'? I am aware of crime here in NZ and in the UK. I lived in various places around Britiain and liked some more than others. I have lived in rural Scotland, I have lived in lovely Leighton Buzzard. I don't come on here and moan about the UK, I don't come on here and moan about NZ. I haven't posted to challenge your opinion of NZ - people can say what they like about NZ: it is not my friend, my mother or my offspring; I feel no need to champion it's cause. It will stand or fall by it's own merits. Rather, I question your sweeping 'they' as if people are either ignorant or willfully blind to the faults here. I know about the faults, I just don't make an issue of them on here. I tend to offer support rather than make grand statements about good and evil and I find 'they' a tad provocative.

No worries,

Let’s just agree to disagree and please stop attacking me and trying to make out I am racialist. You have no idea of the amount of black people we love from that country and we are still in contact with many of them.

How’s this:
You respect my opinion and I will show respect to yours although we may disagree?

Cool?

sorry, for they read 'some people'
If it does not apply to you and you do not see yourself as one of these 'people' then no need for you to get upset is there?

blimey I thought I was touchy, but put it down to the hormones!

I used to get really irritated by the "theys" and "thems" that people threw around when using broad sweeping statements to demonstrate a whole section of society. I have mellowed some what now, I think being in a different country for sometime where you are suddenly one of "those" immigrants has given me a different take on things. I think personally I am more "racist" (??) now then I ever was in the UK - if racism means that you automatically think a certain way about a whole "shade" of persons, but I also think that I am far more qualified to be so...

Campbells - I haven't read your other post about the rapist, but could it be that the "rapist" was let out because they were "innocent until found guilty", whereas perhaps Mrs Shine-on-Harvey-Moon was already known to be guilty of her "crime" as an illegal immigrant hence she was carted off by the fuzz??? Just a suggestion.

Not upset Lexylou, merely curious.
I enjoy reading the different opinions on this forum. It offers an insight into other people's lives and the joys and problems they encounter. Hopefully, if I ever run into those problems myself, I will have a better idea of how best to deal with them. I think I would be able to count on the support of the BE site if anything untoward happened. I sympathise with the problems and metally cheer on those who have their triumphs. So carry on, for and against. Good luck to all of us wherever we live and whatever our outlook .
