re medical checks and illness - Crohns and IBS
hi, i am wondering as we are considering to emigrate to new zealand, would a specific illness stop us being accepted, my wife has been diagnosed with Crohns and IBS, she is not ill with it, on medication and works full time. would this be a factor of being refused a visa / residency etc. has anyone else had this or a similar illness / medical history and been accepted through into the system., thanks,
has anyone passed their medical checks having crohn or ibs thanks,

Hi there, no specific experience with this but I would think that they would want a medical report from any hospital docs and Gp your wife has seen. They will look at how much it is likely to cost the health service in NZ to look after your wife. Try here, section A4

As far as I recall MrsL had IBS diagnosed before we came, she needed a scrip for the meds when we flew over as I recall. Can't remember specifics but PM me and I'll ask her what happened. It wasn't Chrones mind.

Ghastly condition to have. Absolutely ghastly.
Look, as you know Crohn's has varying levels & flare.
In my opinion, and it is only my opinion, as your wife has already been diagnosed with the condition, you should seek to gain a detailed prognosis and report from a specialist consultant. Ask them for their thoughts on costs for treatment over the next 4/5 years.
I can give you the low down on what the NZIS manual has to say about standards of health etc. but I'll do that tomoz if that is OK. It is really quite late here now. It will not be specific to this condition but more about what $$ NZIS are concerned about etc.
