Default Raumati?

Hi Folks

Me again

We're thinking of renting/buying in Raumati, Kapiti. Looks a nice place to live, but hey! who better to ask than you guys already there

What do you know about the area? Do they have good schools (kids 7 & 10)?
Is it as good as it looks or is it yuk?

Look forward to your help as usual

Cheers

Catkin

Hi Catkin,

I live a bit further in and closer to Welly (Porirua)... Raumati is a nice place, some good looking property and indeed when you look on the ero website there are some good schools. The beech is terrific soooo long and sandy, kids will love it. It is however about as far out from Welly as you would really want to live especially if commuting to there for work. But you have to trade one thing off against another...

Hello

I love Raumati Beach and we seriously considered living there, but the commute into Welly CBD is pretty tough going. The road going in is beautiful but its a single lane and takes forever. Renting over there is incredible because of the commute. You can get a lovely large house (4 bed+) for as little as $500 a week. Have a look at trademe.co.nz for properties in that area. There is also a 'Ray White' real estate agents there. Can't help with things like schooling, sorry. There is lots of holiday accommodation there, in fact we're going to stay in a 2 bed apartment for a few nights while we're in between houses. Its just a short relaxing break for us. Its worth investigating before you arrive, have a look at bookabach.co.nz to find a nice holiday home while you trial it out!

If you do decide its too far, I can highly recommend, Plimmerton/Camborne, that's where we're going to live. Its a reasonable commute to the CBD for my hubby and a beautiful commute for me to work in the Hutt Valley. Its probably the furthest we'd live away and that's still considered a trek by most people. My other favourite surburb is Whitby. Its not too built up, and has nice houses. Plenty of schools and preschools, etc.

Good luck!

hi , we live about 10 mins from raumati, we think its a nice place,a few of the teachers from my sons school live there & they like it. Its just down the road from the paraparaumu shops, & there's also the rauamti beach shops http://www.raumatibeach.co.nz/shops.htm theres also the marine gardens that has the miniture railway every saturday afternoon & thats a popular place, with the playground, swimming pool & beach.

porirua is only about 20 mins away, welly about 50 mins as is lower hutt, in all of these you'll find more shops than at coastlands, but its ok for most day to day stuff,

you said you was looking to rent/buy so here's some of the real estate agents (sorry if you already have this info), some have a rental dept to them, pam at Ray white in paraparaumu helped us find our rental. Donna lynch at remax was really helpful when we was looking to buy.

Schools are good there, i only know Raumati South school (lots of male teachers , a pleasant change!!!!!!!), which has a swimming pool and loads of surrounding space for kids to play. Raumati is considered an "arty" place, quiet, on the sea. Raumati Beach has all the facilities, swimming pool, beachside bar, park with kids playground and model railway ! Raumati Beach school is Good too ! Yeah nice place to bring up kids, tranquil. Commute to Wellie CBD 45 mins by car, no real holdups, part motorway.

You hear of the odd story about drunken teens having wild parties, but no, in esence, tranquil suburbia by the sea. The beach is not great but you can have a nice walk facing Kapiti island.
