Default Quick Wedding in NZ?

Ive been thinking about that for a while. Does anybody know if thats possible for two foreigners to get married quickly in New Zealand? And what documents would be needed?

Is that just common:

Passports
Single Status Certificates
Divorce Certificates if applicable
Birth Certificates

or anything else? What should be stamped with apostile?

Thanks in advance.

I got married out there in 1995, don't remember it being very hard to arrange.
Think I got forms off Internet filled them in even before OH got to NZ at some office - can't for the life of me remember where. Arranged for a private ceremony at a friends house with an official who lived near - wrote our own vows etc. All pretty easy - but then I've wiped it all from my memory
I'll try and remember all the details and get back to you

I got married there in 1989, and only just made it on the paper work as they needed 2 days to process the marriage licence. This is a long time ago so the time delay may be different now.

Divorced now

thanks, the site is very helpful but its probably me just being slightly retarded, I dont understand it says all we need is to apply for marriage license beforehand, make a statuary declaration, choose a marriage celebrant, divorce certificate, well and pay. Also passports I assume. So no certificates of no impediment, no birth certificates, no apostiles, nothing like that? Is that all paperwork we would need. Seems to be too good to be true:-) Just cannot believe that. Only Vegas is easier.

Will get through the website later tonight, maybe missed something...

Thanks again!

Check with a JP or a marriage celebrant (yellow pages). Both of them should know what you need. If you were marrying a kiwi in order to get into NZ I don't think it's so easy, but I have no idea what the rules are in this case. I think they're supposed to look for evidence of a genuine relationship, rather than someone you met at a backpackers who agreed to help you out.

When my hubby and I were married last year in florida, all we had to do was go to there council building and apply for marriage cert which we were given there and then, and we could of been married in 30 minutes after that..we just showed our pass ports and birth certs and paid a 90 dollar fee. im sure it will be along these lines here too.

we could of been married there and then , i have a friend who did this at same place, they just got dressed up and went in filled out form said we want to get married right now and it was done, not sure on fee though

i wouldnt tell them you were doing this for a visa though, and im sure you will have to still show proof of relationship when applying for visa along with marriage cert

No really it is that easy, but we were both British and not looking for a visa marriage to stay in the country. Try emailing them questions if you're unsure.

I should imagine it is the immigration service that will take an interest in your marriage if you apply to stay in the country. The registry office is probably not that concerned. Just so long as you are who you say you are.

Im doing this to stay in NZ?? immigration service would be interested?? backpackers?

you got all this from the word "quick"?:-) Thanks for all replies I understand your concerns re illegal immigratio but dont be too alert:-) , I have never been to NZ and do not intend to stay there by no way:-)

My Australian partner and me are living in different continents at the moment and will be apart probably for another half a year, its quite a situation so we think we ll just get married when Im next time in Australia, thinking of New Zealand at the moment, sounds just fine to me, I mean paperwork, timing, pretty views:-) My partner insists on Australia though:-((

j19fmm, thanks again for the link, very helpful. it does seem that easy.

You could always do something really random and fly up to one of the glaciers in the west coast of south island NZ (weather dependant of course) with a marriage celebrant etc....There are companies that specialise in weddings for overseas people in NZ just google it...
Good luck.....This may give you some ideas and information. http://www.theweddingcompany.co.nz/
