Default Question Regarding Travel Insurance booked in NZ

I have booked a visit to the UK for September and have some basic over on my credit card.

I asked if i was covered for any emergencies in the UK such as my gran passing away meaning i have to head over earlier than September and probably cancelling the trip. Their answer was no. Only family in NZ are covered.

Is that likely to be the norm?
Or are their insurance companies in NZ that cover that kind of emergency?

I guess if something bad happens i could talk to the airline for changing flights but i'd incur change fees which are not covered.

I am covered if i get ill and cant travel etc.

This credit card travel insurance doesnt seem that great. Might shop around.
