Question regarding criminal conviction
Hello!
This is my first post on here, however I'm using my phone at the moment so it maybe a little brief, therefore my apologies for that!
I'm 24 and live in the UK (will be 25 upon immigration), and I'm hoping to emergrate (working visa, then apply for residency later) to nz mid 2015 with my partner.
When I was 11 I toured both Islands and was supposed to move with my parents however their plans changed and got divorced instead aha.
Anyway back to my question, when I was 15 I received a conviction for assualt and robbery - believe it or not, someone handing you £1 (to borrow) is classed as robbery.. Oh well.
I dont think I'll have a problem with the "good character" for immigration as it states substantial record:- which isn't me.
I have a good character, turned my life around and went off to university etc, so I should be fine on that front.
I think I'm waffling on but anyway my main question is how does your UK criminal record come with you to nz? Or doesn't it? For eg over here an enhanced crb would bring up my conviction - does it over there? What would be recorded on nz police systems about me? Etc etc.
Hopefully I would like to join the police myself, but unsure on the rules in nz for that with having a conviction (half hence my question).
Thank you,
Mikey

Re: Question regarding criminal conviction
I'm not convinced records come with you, but I am sure that records would be available if required. A request is made to the UK police to check when completing the forms and a check is made on all the addresses. I guess I too am waffling but someone here is sure to know.
I think any conviction may rule you out of the opportunity to join the NZ police force 80( Not sure I have helped.

I had to have a police check when I did voluntary work in NZ because I was working with vulnerable adults. They didn't check my police record in Britain as they didn't ask for my home addresses in Britain.
For something like working in the NZ Police they would probably be very thorough. However, it would depend on how it's viewed. Look on the NZ Police recruiting website there may be information there.

They will check records in the uk if you are wanting to work for goverment. But you'd have yo declare it on your acro check anyway when applying for your visa. They are that thorough that they said I had a something on my record to declare. Which I didn't declare as I have no relocation of anything to do with the police.

Re: Question regarding criminal conviction
when you say work visa, which one do you actually mean?
to become a police officer you have to at least have residency.

I work for government, but have never had my UK records checked. Defence and frontline roles might be different though.

That makes sense, for that department.
