Recognised Qualifications

Have a look at the above link. It depends on country, institution and qualification

Like Persephone says, it depends on country, institution and qualification

ITIL 3 is definitely recognised, as that's international. There are a lot of NZ companies which have trained / are training staff in ITIL, but it's not considered a 'lock' for getting a job - just a 'plus'.

you will need to check the Immigration website to see if they are recognised still

Agree, still check as it is not a given they will be on the list just because they are from the UK. Highly likely but not guaranteed!

If you are planning on applying for residency then your qualification will have to match one of those on the LTSSL in order to gain bonus points for a qualification or work experience in an area of shortage [ie IT]
You can still gain points for work experience though

Have a look at the ANZSCO listing for IT here : http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]+Specialists
The relevant part is :
Most occupations in this unit group have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification. At least five years of relevant experience and/or relevant vendor certification may substitute for the formal qualification. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).
When you say 'qualifies' do you mean for a visa or for jobs?

No, it still depends on the institution. Some issues for example with old Polytechnics that may or may not have been added to the accepted Institutions list or may have been listed under their new name, so "Certificates of Equivalence" issued by the "new" university that replaced the Poly may be needed.

my husbands degree was not in the subject that he works in (he works in IT) but he was still able to claim points for it. Check out the list to see if your main degree affords you any points.

(we were told by a Immigration Advisor that his degree would not count as it was not in the field he was seeking work in, but when we spoke to New Zealand House Immigration department they said it did, we put it in and it was counted - bloody Useless Immigration Advisors)
