Default Propper observance of bin day

Now that I understand the foundational organising principles of New Zealand society a little better I make the following proposition:

If a bin day falls on a public holiday (Christmas, New Years, Easter etc.) that the public holiday should be moved to the proceeding weekday. This will ensure the religious sanctity of bin day is preserve and bin day observance is never obstructed by a statutory or religious holiday.

My local council deleted a bin day entirely. This isn't how the it works, my rubbish doesn't just disappeared if it's not collected. Also I don't get to just skip hoovering because it happens that the day I normally do hooverig falls on a public holiday.

I bet only a tiny fraction of New Zealander households partake in organised religious ceremonies whereas most people get organised and prepare to observe bin day.

In fact I propose we reintroduce the New Zealand state motto as "In recycling we thrust!" to reinvigorate people to think about the environment on bin day.

Apologies for butting in from Europe!

Here, in Budapest, bins are collected on the designated days, regardless of public holidays, and that includes Christmas day.

Our bin day was observed on Saturday instead of Friday; I was quite surprised and impressed considering that it was the proper Boxing day and day after New Years day.

We don't do hoovering on public holidays in this household; has to be done the day before.

Next time I buy a house I will definitely be asking about what day bin day is and how reliable collection service is. Right up there with "Is this house haunted?"
