I love that it's made with non breast meat here. Breast meat adds little in flavour. It's the bones where the flavour is so the more the merrier in my curries.
At the moment I am obsessed with Shubh in Sandringham Rd for the cheapest vegetarian takeaways. Huge tubs of chickpea curry for $4. I have been there twice in a week this week....nom nom nom. They cook them the day before often so the flavour is awesome.
Also like Satya on K' Rd. Especially the Bel Puri.
There is also Satya on sandringham rd. It looks really down home but still good.
Some people swear by Top 'n' Town for takeaways too. Also is Sandringham but other places too.
Oh and there used to be a place in Three Kings that did Indian Chinese. That was great too.

Re: Proper curry in Auckland
today I had fish & chips - YUM YUM... The chips were amazingly crispy and not the least bit greasy,,, fish was fresh, tasty and soft. they are sooo good.
I would never eat anything take away in Auckland.. My dad bought loads of fried fishes for me in somewhere North Shore, and I ended up eating only half piece (almost nothing), because it WAS truly worse than rubbish. loaded with salt and just crap !
anyway can't imagine living in Auckland again.!
It was a total nite mare (for 6 months) . Eating rubbish everyday (especially lunch outside and going out for dinner) - just can't stand.
I was extremely Stressed and Depressed there so drank too much coffee every day instead of eating proper foods, because there were no nice or decent foods to eat. so had more coffee... crazy life at a law office. never again good-bye.

Ingredients:1 large onion,2fresh green chillies,piece fresh ginger,3 garlic cloves,1tbs brown sugar,1/2tsp chilli powder,1tsp turmeric,2 tsp garam masala,1 tbs tom puree,2 tins chopped toms,2 chicken breasts,small pot natural yoghurt,fresh coriander
Method:Fry onion, chillies, garlic and ginger for 2-3mins.Then add chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala and sugar into the pan and fry a further 2 mins. Then add tom puree and chopped toms until all cooked through.Put all of the sauce into a blender and blend until it is smooth. In the same pan fry your chicken when chicken is cooked add the blended sauce and simmer.Add yoghurt at the end and fresh chopped coriander.
So simple all fresh ingredients and it actually tastes better the next day as all the spices have flavoured the sauce.yumyum

You get cheap pig's heads round my way. Bung them in the oven and they come up nice and crispy - think freshly cooked pork scratchings. Yum. That's local culcha for ya.

Oh - righto .
Although a pigs head was something bought as a huge treat by those unable to afford good cuts of meat in the UK and Eire many decades ago. My Mum's family was one. It was a huge treat. You didn't roast them. They were boiled .
Never yet seen a pacifika eat pork of any sort. Not even when we spent some time in Samoa.

They definitely eat pork but mostly as a celebration meal. Spit roasted is most favoured I believe, but pigs head, as you say are a cheaper option. Had this from some Samoans and Tongans. Can't speak for the others though.
