Default Private Health Care

I have read many comments on here where people go on about how much it costs for a visit to the Doctors and how much the Dentists cost. Can anyone tell me what kind of private health care options there are. I use BUPA in the UK for dental care which pays me any costs back. Is there similar schemes in NZ and does anyone know roughly how much they cost?
Thanks

We are currently looking at Southern Cross for health insurance. If you google it you will get the website. Good luck
