Default Premium Economy, watch what you pay for!

I just did a short notice compassionate visit to UK, booked all with Air NZ on premium economy.
Now, when we first came out, it was also with AirNZ in premium, and it was a wonderful trip. Legroom, recline, wider seats. This time however, it seems they've decided to squeeze extra seats in by fitting cattle class width seats, although there is still good legroom with extra recline. They are far from the most comfortable, and other passengers also commented on it.
I know I was lucky having my brother put the money on my card, but the fact that I'm paying the extra should give me better seating. I shall be bleating to the airline as well, just wanted to warn others.
Steve.
