Default power company scalping

warning to all.

This is a bit techie, but stick with it. I have just heard about some disgusting charging tactics used by lines companies, which in turn are being passed on to the customer - you.

If you are a Genesis customer you will have recently had a letter/e mail about how they are increasing their charges and how it is broken up into line costs/power co costs.

Recently in Oahakune a 'commercial' customer had his 'supply' redefined meaning he now has to pay power based on his peak demand, which in itself isn't that wrong, except his peak demand is setting his rate for the entire year what that means is his line charge is $2K EVERY MONTH, (instead of just the one month). Why was he being redefined? because there is no cell coverage where he is and a smart meter can't be installed.

This is the thin edge of a very fat wedge. Today, commercial, tomorrow domestic.

So what this means is as domestic customers, you could very well be charged by your supply fuse rating = higher bills, much higher.

a smart meter is a device that tells the power co what power you are using and when you are using it.

What it can do for the power co is to then charge you more at peak demand! Cos it runs 24/7 there's no getting away from it. (unlike the old days when we had to install peak demand meters.)

They are smart only for the power co.

Incidently it's only a small change to make the smart meter into a smart cut off switch, meaning run out of credit = no power; use over a certain limit = no power etc etc

Get him to put in a Vodafone broadband line and then put their Sure Signal down it, turns the property at the end of the broadband line into a local 3G cell - then he can have a smart meter. Based on your figures it would pay for itself in 10mins.
