Potatos (yes a thread about potatos)
 

Anyone know of any good potato's in NZ for mashing.

Yes trivial it may seem but i miss my decent mash

want to find floury pots like king Edward or Maris piper but they dont have these varieties here

anyone found any decent ones.

Looked at pak n save, new would, countdown, woolworths and moore wilsons and none good

need my mash

That's funny :D I was just thinking the same thing during the week! I know I should know, what with my heritage and all :D , but I haven't a clue what potatoes are called! From my experience, the yellower ones are better :o Any idea what THEY're called?

We bought some gorgeous red ones last week but can't for the life of me remember what they were called but they did make lovely mash.
Have you got a potato ricer Sugo, it's the best thing I ever bought from Ikea (well I got my mum to post one to me to be honest) It makes beautiful mash out of any potato.
Have you tried the veggie shops rather than the supermarkets cos they have cheaper spuds and a lot more variety too.
I've def been here too long, I caught myself calling an apple by it's variety name instead of just a green one or a red one http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../F_14WA124.gif

I've been tending to use Maris Anchor potatoes. They seem to be a good all round potato & they mash well. :p

There's a variety called Red Kings (I think short for Red King Edwards) that are grown in Southland mainly. They are great mashers.

You're more likely to get what you want in Farmers markets or specialist Fruit & Vege shops, rather than the supermarkets.
