have to agree the fish is out of this world... the chips though leave alot to be desired.... must admit when we first arrived got caught out with the scoop thing lol

positive things about NZ

1. Had the best Christmas ever.. sat at a mates pool (not a pom btw) drinking champage with strawberries then indoors for a huge feast then back out to the pool for after dinner drinks. All home cooked food and totally yummy.

2. Made some fantastic mates (all parts of the world) who still keep in touch

3. Again back to the mates thing. Kiwi mates coming over with a chilly bin full of beer and wine on a sunday afternoon to catch up on life

4. Waking up every monring to the sound of the ocean adn going to bed at night listening to the same

5 Christmas morning watching the families on teh beach playing

6. Watching the dolphins swim by and on one occasion some Killer Wales

7. The drive from the Bay of Plenty to Auckland - truely awesome

We were living beachfront in Papamoa, Bay of Plenty, and I mean beachfront.

Our first rental was a new build brick and tile shity thing. Landlord done the dirty on us but def done us a favour. We then got the chance of an old Lockwood with a woodburner on the beach for less rent than we were paying for our new build. The outside of the house looked knackered, it was wind and water tight but need some love and the previous renters left the place in a right state.

That house in NZ made our last 9 months totally perfect. My dog had the best time of his life surfing in the waves, and becuase we were so far down teh beach we never got hassled with tourists.

Carmen, yes we are back for good. We are hoping to take a trip back next year for a holiday for a mates wedding and to catch up. Saying that my mum is about to buy a business in Florida on the Gulf Coast so who knows eh.

One of hubbys mate emailed us the other night to say the rental was now on the market for a bargain $1.6m - considering we only paid $320pw rent I think we got a bargain.

I think I should also add we were luckier than some ex pats - mates of ours are really struggling to meet friends but we had tons of mates asking us out and coming over etc plus our neigbours at either side invited us in for christmas dinner - they didnt want us to have our 1st christmas in NZ on our own.
