Re: POLL: NZ~ stay or leave
might be worthwhile adding that we are undecided at the moment and our decision will depend mainly upon the business taking off or otherwise !

We've already moved on so I've had to answer it like I was still there . Good luck with your business Lardyl being self employed is the best way to be "fiscally" secure as Genesis would probably say, being your own boss if you work hard you'll get the rewards not someone else.

too true - and you don't have to live with the NZ "management style" - although I do miss Friday afternoon socialising
as I've said before the NZ system is great for getting into business and the number of Kiwis with second/third incomes from that sort of thing is pretty staggering
and contrary to what others have posted there are lots of people getting along very nicely in their own businesses and skewing the "average income" stats - just for the record that does not include me...

Voted 'undecided' because we have already left but may be going back.

Re: POLL: NZ~ stay or leave
Not quick answer for me and i am a blinking kiwi
1. I am quite happy here
but, intend to go back to the UK for a couple more years (HSMP/Tier One) at some point.
2. Plan to move back to NZ when I am done with that (after I leave, stay somewhere else, then come back)
3. Can't guarantee that I won't explore somewhere else first though.
My family are here. And I love this country (even with its faults). But, i am not going to say it is perfect for me in 25 years time - because how would i know? I am a pretty restless person though so that isn't surprising. I can't commit to what i order in a restaurant without changing my mind. not sure i would commit to living somewhere for the rest of my life!
In saying that, if I had nippers, i would move back here. Without a doubt.

Clearly I shall go back to the UK _at some point_ after building up my professional career here. (Fact is I wish I could hop into a plane right now!) the process for the finding job would be a nightmare in the UK without (at least) 8 + years of relevant professional work experience...........so
after all, I have to realize that I am tooooooo British.

We are staying put! Still on temporary residency at the mo. Can apply for PR at the end of the year though, once we have been in business for two years. Good luck with your business lardyl. It is hard work but so far so good and it does seem to be working for us. So like I say we have every intention to stay

Re: POLL: NZ~ stay or leave
we are going back to the UK at some point in the future, was only ever going to be for an adventure for us,but wasn't anticipating liking it quite as much as I do,so will be very sad when we do go back...But my kids growing up with there grandparents and close family mean more to me than NZ i'm afraid..but what a fantastic experience, both highs and lows..Wouldn't have changed it for the world......Jacky

We are staying, we are very happy here but we don't know what the future will bring so I can't say it's forever. I hope so though .
Good luck with your new business Lardyl, what is it that you're doing?

I moved to Oz after nearly 10 years but will be back one day. Paid off the mortgage on the place in Auckland last week and waiting for a property crash to get another. At 1.22 NZ dollars to 1 AU dollar and the mining boom you'd be mad to stay at the moment.

If property prices were to come down and the exchange rate improve, then might stay. If not, shall probably move on.
