Great India on Courtenay is our favourite curry place in Wellington.
Rasa on Cuba is also good for curry - but more South Indian / Malaysian style, yum!
Flying Burrito Brothers on Cuba for Mexican.
I've not been, but Chow on Tory Street is supposed to be really good.
As for going out dancing......I really couldn't say. I don't believe I've gone out dancing since I came to NZ!

There's a new one on Courtenay called Ancestral - nice grub, nice surroundings.

The latest bar/restaurant on Courtenay Place is the Bangalore Polo Lounge. It's a bit like Raffles Hotel (Singapore)Long Bar where people are encouraged to throw peanut shells on the floor!!

been there with my mate (English)- We ordered quite a few (including some sea foods) - none of them were nice enough.... We decided won't go there again.

Hi
We had a trip to Wellington last weekend from Auckland.
We had a bite to eat at Abrakebabra, and a dinner at Little India on Cuba Street and Italian dinner at Zico on Courtney Place, all were very nice, although they might be a bit quiet for a girl weekend as it was a trip for me and my husband
Have a good time, it was my first trip to Wellington and really enjoyed it there.

Hi
Yeah Zico was pretty small and at the 'other end' of Courtney Place, No 8 I think, it was quiet when we went in as it was Sunday evening
Food was lovely though.
Some restaurants have BYO wine - not Zico, but Little India did and a few we passed down Courtney Place advertised BYO.

Scopa is pizza/pasta and Logan Brown is expensive fine dining so chalk and cheese.
I'm an expert on brunch but not so much on nightlife lol.
Actually the music is jazz so probably not your scene really but Hummingbird on Courtenay Place does good food and is lively in the evenings. It's an established Wellington haunt and I only got there very recently.http://www.hummingbird.net.nz/intro.asp
Almost next door to it, The Tasting Room is like a Pub-style Restaurant - always been lively.http://www.thetastingroom.co.nz/
OR what about the Belgian Beer Place Leuven? http://www.leuven.co.nz/
You are spoilt for choice really - just wander and see what takes your fancy.
There's also Macs Brewbar on the waterfront near Te Papa (not been here for ages).http://www.macsbrewbar.co.nz/
Zibibbo maybe? http://www.zibibbo.co.nz/
Nightlife for unaccompanied ladies?...err....you could try pole dancing on Courtenay Place I suppose.
Music stuff on Cuba Street:

Actually I'd recommend you catch a bus out for Sunday brunch to Lyall Bay and either go to Maranui or Elements (both favourites of mine) or Polo(closed Sundays) in Miramar as well.....some of the best restaurants are out in the suburbs you see.

Actually really should point out that at weekends at lunchtime, Maranui at Lyall Bay is probably the liveliest noisiest restaurant in NZ and the music is deffo indie and the coffee fantastic if you like the strong stuff. It burnt down 2 years ago but has now reopened and is better than ever, also quite cheap, hence the queues and popularity.
