Places in Auckland?

Where are the nicer areas of Auckland? We want to be quite near the centre but not too near. On Google Earth so many of the areas look jam packed.
What is Titirangi like?

Titirangi is a lovely leafy area in the hills with lots of bushwalks, craft places and little beaches and not far to surf beaches, but as the previous person said it's about an hour commute and if you want nightlife there's not much there. If you want an older nicer area Remuera, Ellerslie, Balmoral, Mt Eden maybe. Depends what you want. I'm out of touch with where new estates are now, but we built in Henderson 20 years ago and it was then a young family place, reasonably cheap area in the middle of the wine district and only 20 mins from West Coast beaches, but lots of people have this redneck perception of the place. It really depends on what you can afford and what sort of lifestyle you want.
