Default Ping pongs

Prog on last night about this. Apparently (if my memeory serves me correct) there are 3 main reasons for ping pongs. Missing relllies, missing 'home', and the last one that your percieved 'dream' did not pan out. I have always thought (inspite of my moaning) that all our wishes re our move were well and truly exceeded. I never missed rellies and friends (up till now) that much and have only in the last few years out if seven really missed the UK. This subject is such a big one and so many do it that there is a lecturer in the UK on the subject. We saw one couple returning to Lancs who found Oz horribly expensive. I must say if we returned to the UK we would most certainly be on a fiscal back foot and a back foot re qulaity of life.

We saw that on TV yesterday, even though I agreed with the odd bit they were saying the Brits featured seemed to be pillocks so I couldn't take them serious. I was laughing though when he called the small beer a ladies measure, admittedly that did sound like something I'd say!

At the end of the programme was a request for any ping pong poms in NZ. I'll certainly be watching next Sunday to see if there will be an article on this.

Wasn't overly impressed with the adults. Is it really true that a lot decide to go to OZ on the basis of a non fiction soap like Home & Away?!!!!!!!

I had Dutch friends visit me & thought Keeping Up Appearances was factual so I guess there are people around who think it's all real.

BTW, the Dutch didn't get another invite .... too thick.

Hi Mat. Please could you link the t.v. show to this discussion as I didn't see it. Most expats have got their head up their backside no matter which direction they are going in or which country they go to.

Not too bitter or judgmental, then.

I disagree- I just think it's a very hard decision to make and can be almost impossible to unpick the emotional from the practical in the process and the former frequently blurs the latter.

I'm not even sure which show it was, my missus had the TV on and I just happened to be watching it. Maybe someone else knows which show/channel it was on.

Oh, ok. I'll bear that in mind for when I emigrate to New Zealand.

Yes, I was being sarcastic.

I am open mouthed at your response on account of the fact we went to hell and back with our emigration last year.

Well it'd help if they put it in the program description

It'd help if it was in the program, goes from murderer to musician or am I missing something

Most decisions most people make in most places are probably slightly duff most of the time - so the decision to emigrate is probably no more or less successful than any other decision made by mankind as individuals...IMHO of course ;-)

For example - take share trading (doesn't matter what share or exchange for this). For each deal that actually trades a share, there is a buyer and seller who exchange at that price - the only "gain" or "loss" that is made overall is when we extrapolate that new price to the ungraded shares. Whether the price is going up or down and its future movement will decide whether the buyer is the winner or the seller but sure as eggs is eggs there are an equal number of winners and losers so share trading is net equal and generates no value of itself (see South Sea bubble, UK property market etc etc).

Compare with commodities trading, forex, houses - most of those key "smart" buying decisions actually take mankind nowhere....

Thanks for the links. I've now watched and smirked at the northerners who are returning. Good luck to the Norwich couple who have just arrived. The content was as predictable as I expected but good to watch anyway.
