Petrol vs Diesel
For some reason I am not sure my last message got posted but here I go again.
Can anyone tell me basically the difference between diesel and petrol usage in NZ please?
Something along the lines of, (if describing UK use):
Diesel is slightly more expensive than basic unleaded petrol
Cars get more miles per gallon generally
Car tax is slightly cheaper.
Thanks in advance.
Colin

Hi
When you buy your Toyota Hilux Surf Diesel you will find that Diesel is less expensive at the pumps than petrol, but you also need to pay an additional Road User Charge (RUC) licence which is mileage based. 10,000 km costs $330 for a Category 3 Truck like the Surf. Even with this fuel cost per KM is less than petrol - but if you're looking for fuel economy don't buy a big 4x4 truck anyway!

Re: Petrol vs Diesel
I dreamt of owning a 4x4 when we got here but am glad we didn't get one now with the rising costs of fuel.
I think we may down grade our second car to a motorbike soon if fuel goes up any more. Maybe in a few years we'll all be trotting around on horses anyways or horse and cart

Re: Petrol vs Diesel
Diesel is about 40c a litre cheaper than petrol at the moment. I save about $16 every time I fill up the van.
The diesel tax makes up some of this differnce but not all by a long way.

Thanks all for the info.
Looks like another of those 'wait until we get there and REALLY understand/appreciate the differences ourselves' sort of things.
This time in a month..........leaving Singapore for Auckland :scared:
